In September 2019 I decided to switch to a whole food, plant-based diet. I started this site to help me keep track of recipes I have used and liked. I wanted to be able to tag the recipes with perishable ingredients. This way, if I have ingredients I need to use (or are on sale) I can click the "tag" for that ingredient and then all the recipes I use will pop up.
I am still learning more about this lifestyle. And will make changes as I go. I do not make my family follow it 100%. If we have spaghetti and they want to add Parmesan, they can. If they want to eat meat at school, they can. In the beginning of this, I will have an "anything" goes night. I am hoping this will make the transition easier and they can still have their favorites until we can find new favorites.
Based on what I have read, this is a lot like a Vegan diet without highly processed foods. But unlike vegan, there are still some things I will use.
-I will use honey. I have friends who have bees and give us honey. I have heard local honey is good for allergies which several family members suffer from.
-I have three chickens. As of now they are not laying eggs, but when they do if I eat eggs, they will only be from my chickens.
-I am not going to be super strict when I am at restaurants or at others' homes. I don't want to take the joy out of going out to eat with my family or eating with others. My plan is to find options that are close. But we don't go out to eat often so this isn't a huge deal for us.
-I am not giving up Chick fil a or sushi. Haha! Although they will be eaten sparingly.
Basically, I am just starting. I figured it is better than nothing. If I had an "all or nothing" mindset, I would never even start this. I'm taking it slow and doing what works for me.
